The Effects of Saw Palmetto on Women are Unclear

While saw palmetto is known to have many natural healing abilities when it comes to the health of men, it is not been overly used by many women. Research studies regarding the effects of saw palmetto on women have been few, and none were 100 percent conclusive. However, many women have sworn to its effectiveness when it came to shedding unwanted hair growth caused by hirsutism, as well as in naturally enlarging their breasts. While many woman swear to the effectiveness, profession claims of the effects of Saw Palmetto on women are mostly based on the word of these women, as well as on their own theories regarding the product.

For example, the health condition called hirsutism, as mentioned above, is when a woman grows excessive hair, or hair in places where most women would not normally grow hair. This occurs when testosterone levels in the particular woman are higher than normal, like that of a man. In men and women alike, testosterone forms into an even stronger hormone that is called dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. DHT is found in the skin, and is the exact hormone that can cause hirsutism in women. Based on this information, professionals can theorize that by reducing DHT levels, hirsutism will be reduced, as well.

You may be wondering what this has to do with the effects of saw palmetto on women. There is more to the research, as well as the theory. Research studies have shown that saw palmetto is successful in treating the symptoms of benign prostate hyperplasia, or BPH. Saw palmetto is proven to reduce the levels of DHT in men, which is one of the primary causes of BPH. With this data, it can safely be assumed, that effects of saw palmetto on women with hirsutism would be the same. However, the effects of saw palmetto on women have be neither confirmed nor denied by research.

As for the claims that effects of saw palmetto on women include natural breast enlargement, they have never been confirmed or denied by research studies, either. However, unlike with the theories used to determine the effectiveness of saw palmetto when used to treat hirsutism, most claims of natural breast enlargement come from the companies who market a product for such purpose. Most of these companies make claims to have done independent studies regarding the effects of saw palmetto on women. None of the research has been conclusive.

Without adequate research and investigation, saw palmetto is not normally recommended for use by women. Until such a day more research is conducted, the effects of saw palmetto on women will likely remain unclear, as well as primarily based on theory. If you are women considering the use of this herb to natural increase your breast size, its best to first consult with your doctor. Without proper product investigation, as well as administration, you could be putting yourself at risk.
